Perry is she is Chicago native born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television were two appearances on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mom. Perry did not decide to explore acting as a profession until after she had reached adulthood because her parents were worried about the detrimental impact stress might be a cause of. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017, Perry had a minor role on ABC's thriller about politics Scandal which starred her father. The actress also portrayed her older Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon, a CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. Despite having a family connection to the character she got the role via an audition.
